An outstanding member of the education community of the Shoals area for over 25 years, Ski has served both the Muscle Shoals and Sheffield school systems as a classroom teacher, coach and administrator. He was named the Head Basketball Coach at Muscle Shoals in 1988 and had immediate success leading the Trojans to a 20-6 record in his first year. During his tenure as the Trojans head man there were many firsts for the Muscle Shoals Trojans basketball program. He led the Trojans to their first ever State Tournament appearance in the 1991-1992 season at Auburn University, their first Northwest Regional Championship in Hanceville during the 1993-1994 season, and their first appearance in the inaugural Final Four at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center that same year. Ski additionally led the Trojans to County championships in both 1992 and 1993 and was selected Times Daily Coach of the Year twice.

Following Ski's years at Muscle Shoals he was named the Head Basketball Coach at Sheffield High School in 2001 and again success came for the Bulldogs as he led teams to the county championships as well as Times Daily Tournament Championships in both 2016 and 2017. He led Sheffield to appearances in the Northwest Regional Championships in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. During the 2016-2017 season, Ski led the Bulldogs to their best record in school history at 29-3 while leading them to an appearance in the Final Four at the BJCC. Ski was named the Alabama High School Athletic Association 2A Coach of the Year following the 2016-2017 season.
