Phil Gargis

Class of 2001

Phil Gargis is a 1973 graduate of Colbert County High School where he played both football and basketball. Along with fellow inductee Thad Flanagan, he led the Indians to the 1973 State 3A Football Championship. 

 

After high school, Gargis was offered a football scholarship by Auburn Univeristy where he lettered four years with the Tigers. He was elected a permanent Team Captian in 1976 and he won the outstanding Shug Jordon Senior Football Player Award. In 1974, Phil was the Columbus, Georgia Touchdown Club SEC Sophomore of the Year and was also the MVP of the 1974 Gator Bowl. 

 

Phil Gargis holds the record at Auburn University for the most net yards gained rushing by a quarterback.
