Bobby Gill graduated from Deshler High School where he excelled in  football and track. In 1950 he led the Tigers to the Tri-Cities TVC championships and was the first Split-T Quarterback of the school. He was Team Captain of the 1950 squad, first team All Tri-Cities, first team All Tennessee Valley Conference along with honorable mention All-State. In addition to being an outstanding football player Bobby was excellent in track. He held the broad jump record in the Tennessee Valley Conference for six years and placed third in the 1950 state meet.
