Mike graduated fro Deshler High School in 1967 where he lettered in football, basketball, and track from 1964-1967. He was selected All-District in basketball, All-State in football, and was a team captain in the North- South All-Star Football game in 1967.

After high school, he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Alabama and lettered three years for Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. As a player for the Tide, he participated in the Gator, Liberty and Bluebonnet Bowls.

 

Following a successful high school coaching career, Mike is currently coaching at Liberty University. He has also coached at UNA, Chattanooga, Richmond and Arkansas State.
