Lane Roland

Inductee

A 1966 graduate of Sheffield High School, Lane Roland has held many records for track and cross country teams including MVP for both.  During the 1966 season, the Bulldogs' track team was undefeated in dual and tri-meets. The squad broke more records and finished with the overall best record since the 1963 season all while finishing third in the 3A State Meet. During his senior season, Roland set a new state record for the 880-Yard Dash with a time of 1:57.4 beating the school record of 1:58  which he held previously, tied with Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame Member and Sheffield Alum, Nick Wright. Additionally, he was a part of the mile relay team that also set a state record with a time of 3:30.7 minutes. Following his outstanding high school career, Roland received a track scholarship to Auburn University coached by legendary Mel Rosen.
