Tim graduated from Colbert Heights High School in 1070 where he was an outstanding basketball player for the Wildcats and earned a scholarship to St. Bernard Colleges upon completing his high school career. Tim's scholarship was the first ever to a four year college for an athlete from the school that was just in it's third year of existence. He had an impressive senior year culminating in being named to play for the north squad in the annual North/South All-Star game in Tuscaloosa. In that game Tim scored two points on an offensive rebound and hit three free throws to ice the game for the North All-Star team in the final two minutes of the contest. He was also named to the All-County and All-Area teams for the 1969-1970 season as he averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds during the season.
