Ozzie Newsome

Class of 2000

A 1974 Graduate of Colbert County High School, Newsome was chosen as All-County, All-Area, All-State, and All-American in football throughout his high school career. He played football at the University of Alabama from 1974 to 1978 under Coach Paul Bear Bryant and was on the All-SEC team for three years as well as an All-American for two years.

 

He played in the National Football League for the Cleveland Browns from 1978 to 1991. He is an inductee to the National Football Hall of Fame ('99), the National Football Foundation, and the College Football Hall of Fame ('92), the NCAA Hall of Fame ('94), and the University of Alabama Football Hall of Fame ('95). His record with the NFL includes 662 pass receptions for 7,980 yards (most ever by a tight end).

 

Newsome is currently the General Manager for the Baltimore Ravens.
