Henry Manush

Class of 2000

Born in Tuscumbia in 1901, Manush played major league baseball for 18 years. With a lifetime batting average of .330, "Heinie" played for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, Brooklyn Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1926 he led the American League in batting with a .378 average. He played in the All-Star Game of 1934 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1972. He is also a member of the Michigan and Florida Sports Halls of Fame.​
