Class of 2006

Al graduated from Deshler High School in 1948, received his B.S. form the University of Alabama in 1952 and Masters from the University of Philippines in 1954. As a member of the Tiger football team, he lettered three years at tackle. He was captain of the undefeated '48 squad, was All Tri-Cities and All State his senior years. Al's high school coach was "Shubie" Sparks, and he along with Coach Howard Chappell were instrumental in helping him to earn a scholarship to play for Alabama. He played three years on the Crimson Tide Varsity at defensive tackle under Coach "Red" Drew, earning his first start during the 1950 season against Tennessee. After college, he served in the Philippines where he coached service football for two years.
