A three-sport athlete for the Cherokee Indians, Kevin was outstanding, lettering four years in both football and track along with three years in basketball.  And even though he was exceptional in all three sports it was in football that he reached his greatest accomplishments. In four years of high school he played quarterback, safety and linebacker. On offense he threw for 1600 yards and rushed for over 1300 yards. He rushed for 6 touchdown and threw 17 touchdown passes as the quarterback. On the defensive side of the ball where he would play during his college career Kevin was great at both safety and linebacker. He intercepted 10 passes with 5 returned for touchdowns, recovered 8 fumbles, had 19 tackles for a loss along with 13 sacks. He was both All- Area and All-State as a senior. After high school he first signed a scholarship with Northeast Mississippi Community College and then on to Oregon State University. As a member of the Beavers he had outstanding games against Stanford recording 9 tackles; LSU with 5 tackles including two for losses; and Notre Dame making 5 tackles. He made two bowls appearance at Oregon State won both the Las Vegas and Insight Bowls.
