Class of 2012
Doug is a graduate of Deshler High School where he was an outstanding member of the Tiger football and track teams coached by Hall of Fame Member Coach Buddy Moore. Doug was a two year starter in football playing on the 1965 undefeated Deshler squad. That same year he placed first in the pole vault at the 3-A track sectionals with a high of eleven feet and ten inches. Following high school he received a football scholarship to Tennessee Tech University and was a four year starter at defensive end. After graduating from college he started a long and distinguished career in education and coaching. He served as an assistant football coach at Lawrence County High School, assistant football and track coach at Hanceville High School, and head football coach at Vinemont High School. Doug then served as assistant principal for eight years before retiring in 2004. He came out of retirement to become head football coach at St. Bernard Prep School in 2006 before retiring for a second time after the 2007 season.
