david ward

Inductee

David is a graduate of Colbert Heights High School where he was a four sport athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball and running track. In football as a tailback for the Wildcats, he was chosen the best offensive back, was All-Area and All-State Honorable Mention. He was awarded the Hustle Award in basketball and qualified for the State Track Meet for four consecutive years in the 440, 220 and the shot put. He was signed to a baseball scholarship by Calhoun Community College following high school where he was selected All-Conference leading the team in batting average and stolen bases. David went on to the University of North Alabama where he led the Lions baseball team in hitting, batting .373 as a junior and .380 as a senior. He was also a member of the football team for two years. After college he began a coaching career in both football and baseball. He was head football coach at Collinwood, Tennessee for two years with a 20-4 record and was the AA Coach of the Year in 1988. He was a head baseball coach for twenty years at Collinwood, Colbert Heights, Northwest Community College and Russellville High School. David's combined record was 535-217 and he was selected Coach of the Year at Collinwood in 1988/1989, 1997 Conference JUCO Coach of the Year at Northwest, and 5A Coach of the year in 2007 at Russellville.
