A 1998 graduate from Cherokee High School Douglas was a gifted three sport athlete for the Tribe. He lettered in football and basketball, but it was on the diamond that he excelled. In 1998 as a senior he led the State of Alabama in batting average with a .635 mark and also hit 12 home runs with 56 RBI's. He was the Times Daily's 1998 1A-3A Player of the year, was selected to the Birmingham News 2A All-State Baseball Team at third base, played in the East-West All-Star Baseball, was selected to play in the North-South Baseball Game which featured the best players in the state in all classification. Following an outstanding high school career he was awarded a baseball scholarship to the University of North Alabama. In 2013 Douglas was inducted into the University of North Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame in honor of his achievements as a member of the Lions baseball team. He was one of the Lions all time greatest baseball players as a four year starter earning All-American and Academic All-American honors during his career. He was the third baseman on UNA's 1999
Gulf South Conference and NCAA Regional Championship team that reached the Division II World Series. As a Lion Douglas played in 192 games, had a .366 career batting average with 167 runs scored and 168 RBI's. He had 88 extra base hits with 23 home runs. He was awarded the GSC Commissioners Trophy in 2001 and 2002 as the Top Male Student Athlete in the GSC and was Disney's Wide World of Sports Conference Commissioners Association Male Athlete of the year in 2001 and 2002. He was also named the association's National Male Athlete of the Year both years.
