Leroy willis

Inductee

Leroy was a 1967 graduate of Colbert Heights High School in the school's first graduating class. He went on to earn his degree from Florence State College. He played guard in basketball and quarterback in football on the Wildcats first varsity teams. He passed for over 1100 yards in football and averaged 16 points per game as a senior. He was selected All-County in basketball and received a scholarship to Northwest Junior College in Phil Campbell. He was head basketball coach at West Morgan and Colbert Heights, leading the Cats to Area Championships in 1980-1981 and 1981-1982 seasons. He was selected Times Daily 1A -2A Basketball Coach of the Year in 1981. He was also the head football coach at Colbert Heights from 1992 - 1998 and led the Wildcats to the State Playoffs in the 1994-1995 seasons. Leroy taught, coached and worked as principal in Alabama schools for 32 years before retiring. He is currently teaching and coaching girls basketball in Burnsville, Mississippi. He was involved in organizing the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame in 1999, serving as president of the committee.
