Art Waldrep

Inductee

Art graduated from Cherokee Vocational High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football for the Indians. He was a 3 year letterman in baseball with outstanding career stats as a pitcher. He had a record of 16-7, an ERA of 2.22 with 125 K's in 132 innings pitched. Art was an All Area pitcher in 1989 and 1990. In football he was a 2 year letterman as a receiver, defensive back and punter. In 1090 he was All-Area Honorable Mention. As a member of the basketball team, Art averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds as a senior in 1990 and was a 3 year letterman and team captain during his final season.

After high school Art went on to a college career playing baseball in 1992 for the Calhoun Community College Warhawks, posing a record in 1992 of 8-0with a 3.89 ERA helping lead the team to an Alabama Junior College North Division Championship. That season he pitched a no hitter against Northwest State and was Academic All-Region. Following that season he walked on as a punter at the University of North Alabama avnd was member of the 1993 UNA National Championship Football Team. In 1994 he pitched for Union University posting a 4-6 with an ERA of 3.64 which was his only season there.

Following the one season at Union he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 1994 MLB draft and played for the Bend Rockies in Bend, Oregon, a Rockies Class A affiliate. He then advanced to the Ashville Tourists of the South Atlantic League before finishing his career with Richmond of the Frontier League in 1995.
