Buddy graduated from Sheffield High School in 1951 where he played football and baseball. He was Captain of the 1950 Bulldog squad and was on the All Tri-Cities Football Team in "48, 49 and 50. He was selected to the All TVC Conference Team in 1950.Buddy went on to letter for four years in football at Florence State University (UNA) graduating in 1955. He was selected UNA Alumnus of the year in 1991.

In 1957 he started 38 years of service in public education as teacher, coach and principal. His coaching career began at Deshler where he served as both the football and track coach for 12 years. His football record while at Deshler was 61-33-6. He coached the Tigers to the TVC championship in 1965 and two state track championships in 1962 and 1964. Coach Moore also coached at Scottsboro where he went 8-2 and at Coffee from 1970-1981. While at Coffee he compiled a record of 73-45-4. He was coach of the year three times and had 26 former football players sign Division I football scholarships and two other in track.
