George started his broadcasting career in the early 1950's and retired in the mid 1990's. His nearly half-century of sports broadcasting included both high school and college sports. In addition, he did studio sports shows including college and high school "Dial-A-Score". He covered the University of North Alabama from the time it was Florence State College, Florence State University and then UNA. For several years he was the voice of the Deshler Tigers, but he also covered several other local high schools including Sheffield, Muscle Shoals, Coffee, Bradshaw and Mars Hill. In addition, he did several years of play-by-play for Shoals Community College. In high school he lettered three years in football and played two years of Junior College Football.
